Rockwell Automation is looking for an exceptional leader to manage a team of product quality engineers and technicians responsible for supporting sustaining engineering activities and support of customer issue resolution.

Sustaining engineering maintains a product through the normal production life cycle to improve and enhance functionality, maintain industry certifications, improve quality, and achieve productivity improvements.

Our role in sustaining engineering is to ensure the we have the right quality processes and risk mitigation actions in place leading to maintaining and improveving the Quality of our products.

You will see and learn all functional aspects of product development and sustaining engineering. You will have the ability to make major impacts on product quality, collaborating with leadership across Quality, Engineering, Product Management, Business, and Operations.

For customer issue resolution, you will ensure that escapes to the field are understood (root cause failure analysis) and corrective actions taken to mitigate current and future occurrences.

You will see different failure modes and work with design, supplier and manufacturing teams to implement improvement actions.

You will also work with commercial and account teams to update customers on progress.

You will :

  • Act as the team lead for Product Quality by providing coordination and guidance for your team in the areas of quality management (sustaining activities), quality improvement and customer issue resolution.
  • Ensure product development activities comply with corporate and business level processes and procedures.
  • Be a key part of a cross functional product development team, responsible for meeting warranty, return rates, and issue resolution goals.
  • Directly manage a team of quality engineers and technicians by providing for their continued development, guidance, motivation, and performance management.
  • Encourage a positive work environment to foster outstanding performance. Possess and share a vision of success and work with individuals to help them reach their full potential.

  • Help your team eliminate cost of poor quality by leading improvement activities in design, manufacturing, and supplier quality capabilities and processes so your team is best in class in creating quality designs and in development execution.
  • Lead your team in resolving customer issues by leading technical investigations, determining root cause, establishing corrective and preventative actions, and updating customers and SR leadership on progress.
  • Establish strategies to improve issue resolution cycle time.
  • Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical degree.
  • Key Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development and Quality management.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience demonstrating technical leadership capabilities, working effectively with different levels of staff across functional boundaries.
  • Experience releasing electronic hardware systems that meet product certification requirements, such as CE and IEC 61010.
  • Must exhibit excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development and release of embedded electronic hardware systems for regulated industries.
  • Experience in industrial automation product development or related technical areas, including background with large scale system development projects.
  • Experience working with global team members on multi-campus product development.
  • Experience in project management, either as a combination of technical lead and project management role or as a dedicated project manager.
